I went to a state school in the 80s. just the first year when I majored in party changed my life. Coming from a rural background and getting away from home, though not that far, and being exposed to people with ideas and lives I hadn’t imagined.
At the time I didn’t realize many of my professors probably put their ideology or their own careers above my ‘education,’ but at least I got some semblance of one. Really it’s supposed to be a foundation that teaches students how to learn and how to think, not what.
We allow people to vote in this country who haven’t cracked a book that matters since high school. They voted for hitlery because they wanted a check and an easy way out and for Trump because they dream of being like him. Simple truths.

As long as we allow any dumbass to go vote we must have a ‘literate'(very loosely defined) society. There will always be parents who can’t or won’t ensure their children learn the 3 Rs so to speak and get a sound indoctrination in the love and respect of human liberty much less understand our Bills of Rights, the documents that make us exceptional.
To do all this those who claim to want to be free will have to learn to RULE those who have no such desire and even wish to enslave those around them in whatever version, sub-version or subversion of authoritarianism they claim to ascribe to.

I grew up knowing I had some Indian blood in me. May have some from my father’s side but he said he couldn’t prove it. Since African slaves have been on this continent about as long as Europeans there may be a nigger in my woodpile somewhere. I’ve never lain awake at night worrying about any of it.
It’s all interesting history and maybe important to know for medical reasons but we really need to focus on what matters and not let others tell us race matters more than our liberty or that there are certain words we can’t use and certain groups we can’t question.

Here in amerika the religionists of the the early 19th century up to today had/have a pathetic understanding of our Bills of Rights. Jefferson lived to see some of the results of the ‘great awakening,’ a great religious revival that swept early America and was deeply saddened by it.

Being raised rural southern Baptist and having some exposure to other versions, sub-versions and subversions has convinced me that for the most part religion only encourages ignorance, fear and apathy. In a common statement made by many believers “God is in control. I don’t have to worry about it.”
