I’ve long tended to think, not believe, that the story/legend/myth, it’s a combo of all three probably, was likely based on a real character, like a lot of ancient myth.
People spend a lot of time on what Shakespeare(if he really wrote that stuff) really meant, and that’s only 500 years old. I could write something about some tv preacher who fell from grace decades back and begged his congregation for forgiveness but I didn’t attend any of his services or watch his program so it’s all second or farther hand.
